Atlantis CSP provides simple desalination systems that can provide fresh water for agriculture, industry and domestic use. With the correct planning we can ensure land used for desalination can also continue to be used for farming, or in regions with arid land we can even terraform and adapt the land for farming.
We offer a consultancy and planning service to assess the viability of desalination facilities in different regions. Providing cost assessments, infrastructure requirements with varying installation options. We can then provide the final construction of these facilities or offer a selection of companies that can tender for the project.
Do we need water desalination?
Water scarcity has already been a problem for centuries, it is not a new issue. This has become more prevalent in recent years as our societies have become more organised and large populations now require constant access to water. Water shortages can affect crop yields, disrupt cities, jeopardise hospitals and other essential services and cause local populations to ration or even go without basic running water.
The increased demand for fresh water will only continue and with the global temperatures rising we could see a decline in the volume of fresh water sources such as lakes, reservoirs and rivers due to increased evaporation.
Whichever way you look at this a stable water supply is essential to our expanding societies, and the demand is ever increasing. Providing fresh water is, in essence, a simple process. Our planet has an estimated 1.386 billion cubic kilometres (km3) of water [1]. Only 2-3% of this is fresh water, spread across the world in various locations, lakes, rivers and groundwater.
There are many predictions that we will run out of fresh water by 2040/2050 [2]. However this does sometimes give the wrong impression, we are not running out of ‘water’ and shouldn’t do for millions of years, if at all [3]. We are only running out of our easy to access fresh water supplies, water thankfully does not disappear it just goes round and round in the continuous water cycle.
Solutions
Atlantis CSP can ensure there is fresh water ‘on tap’ in many sunbelt regions of the world, where often fresh water can become scarce. We can also help to provide fresh water to even more remote locations around the world. Get in touch to find out more, tell us your farming or areas needs and we will be able to find a solution.
Quotes & Facts
"At the current consumption rate, this situation will only get worse. By 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages. And ecosystems around the world will suffer even more."
